for 40 channel geodesic sphere • 2014+
OVERVIEW • RESEARCH • DEVELOPMENT • DOCUMENTATION: white | willow | fire • AUDIO |
For this version of Beyond, the geodesic sphere structure is covered in textured pure white fabric, with 'webbing' between the triangles to increase the sense of enclosure while leaving the dome acoustically transparent (facade design by Ian Bilson). Where practicable, white tendrils connect the structure to the surrounding walls and floor.
This is the most thematically 'neutral' of the Beyond series, and thus invites a wide variety of sound materials to play over its surface (though ideally these should be related to the space in which the sphere is situated). However, the resemblance to virus-like structure is not lost on us, and has prompted the organic, primarily watery sounds that inform the work in more recent versions.
