GRIDs
a series of massively multichannel installation works
RESEARCH CONCERNS
Through these works, GRIDs addresses a number of long-standing research aims:
- to create high-quality, detailed spatial environments via dense geometric multichannel configurations
- to develop solutions for building/managing such expansive configurations through affordable technologies and purpose-built software
- to unite the aesthetic concerns of acousmatic and soundscape compositional practice within a framework of installation and public art
- to explore new experiential opportunities afforded by multichannel acousmatic installation environments:
- the unique experience of the individual listener through ambulatory exploration (c.f. static acousmatic concert-hall listening);
- immersivity and intimacy (c.f. formal, impersonal, arena-based concert-hall listening)
- to make multichannel spatialisation experiences accessible to non-specialist audiences
- to make rich acousmatic sound experiences accessible to non-specialist audiences
